Amber Sayer, MS, CPT is an exercise psychologist and certified personal trainer. She grew up in Amherst, Massachusetts and made a mark for herself in high school as a successful cross-country and track runner. Sayer uses her eight years of experience working in the fitness industry and fifteen years as a competitive distance runner to impart expertise in running, exercise training, and nutrition as an independent fitness professional in New York City. While this is Sayer’s debut memoir, she has enjoyed writing for years.

Engaging, inspiring, and thought-provoking cover to cover

Whether you suffer from an eating disorder, love someone who does, or just work with kids, Sayer's book is a must-read. It's emotionally draining, and yet the series of honest, well-chosen vignettes made it impossible to put down. Not only is Sayer brave enough to tell her story in the raw, but she does so with such thoughtful writing and poise that that you root for her from cover to cover. You won't be disappointed.

A valuable and honest story

Amber Sayer shares a difficult experience in this book with great honesty. It's such an important story to tell. As another reviewer said, I think this is a valuable book for any young athlete to read, but also for anyone struggling with a personal difficulty such as addiction or problems with self esteem. I'm sure that Sayer's courage in confronting her disease will be inspirational to people trying to do the same, as well as informative and comforting for the people in their lives.

thought provoking and insightful

A glimpse inside the mind of someone who battled a mental illness and has opened their wounds to let others see and hopefully grow from insight and thoughts. This book may focus on eating disorders and specifically anorexia, but it touches on something deeper than even that, self worth and the role it plays in all our lives. The value a being has on this earth is about so much more than outward appearances and few of us know the true value of our selves. This book uncovers one person's battle to overcome her own demons and shows others how to maybe express their inner thoughts as well.

Es lo primero que leo de Alexandra y me ha gustado mucho. Esta es una historia muy linda, donde atrapó mi corazón la protagonista, que con su forma de ser me ha conmovido en varios momentos del relato. Harmony es diferente, insegura y llena de miedos por todo lo que ha pasado, pero no por eso menos fuerte. Hermosa novela donde la autora nos transporta, con descripciones tan precisas, al lugar de cada escena. De lectura rápida, mantiene al lector atrapado y pendiente de lo que sucederá.

If you can't make it to Broadway...

After falling in love with "The Book of Mormon" soundtrack I wanted to know more about the story and since I can't exactly afford a trip to NYC to see the show (not that i could get a ticket) the book was the next best thing.

The book in includes a forward by Mark Harris, authors notes from each of the three authors, production history, a list of scenes and song titles and, finally, the complete script with song lyrics. The pages are nice and glossy with colorful accents and small photos from production throughout the script.

The script itself is brilliant. I think the review from Hollywood Reporter by David Rooney says it best:

"The show manages to have a comic field day with Mormonism while simultaneously acknowledging - maybe even respecting - the right of everyone to follow any faith they choose. Or invent."

I can't recommend this enough, if you like the soundtrack, or are curious to see what all the fuss is about and can't see the show itself this book is the perfect way to experience and enjoy "The Book of Mormon".

The PERFECT companion to the Cast Recording

If you love The Book of Mormon, this is definitely a book you need to pick up. It's the complete libretto along with pictures of the cast and even close up shots of some of the fun props and costumes used in the production. The actual book of the show is hilarious and has a lot more heart than what you get from the CD. Hands down the Best Musical Libretto I've seen for sale in a good long while.

Best script I have read of a musical in YEARS!

I was not expecting how amazing the quality of the writting would be from a Trey Parker and Matt Stone musical. Wow....the lyrics are so clever and the writing is nothing short of fantastic. I just bought tickets to go see this show in October cause they are sold out for MONTHS!!!! If you want a taste of this musical, get a copy of this script and soundtrack and enjoy!

This book is for someone who has no idea what the prophetic is. I really didn't care for it. If you are looking to be a better prophet...this is not the book! This book is for a church and pastor who has never heard of a prophet. I read the views and someone said get the dictionary too. Before you buy..regardless of the high ratings, make sure to check out what the 1% said. I wish I did. I have the book and it does not tell you how to have a deep relationship with the Lord. It tells you where the prophetic originated from...how it began and mostly a Manual for pastor's. IT DOES NOT TELL YOU HOW TO INCREASE YOUR GIFT.

This is a very in-depth study of the office of the prophet. Paula Price really traces the history of the prophetic using illustrations from biblical and secular examples.. She clearly explains the prophet and prophetic type peoples position in the church and also delves into the differences of the seer versus the prophet, her language can be a bit academic at times but it gets the point across. I felt like a ate a T-bone steak when I got done reading it. I was very interested in this ministry and this addresses the function of the prophet and prophetic people from a multifaceted perspective it also gives suggestions on implementing the prophetic in the local church and also talks about itinerant prophets too. Good book that addresses the prophetic from different and deeper angles than most on the subject!!

Jumanji is a great read

Chris Van Allsburg does it again. He has created a story that is powerful and extremely well illustrated. This story is well crafted and is told with mystery and magic as the main components. I read this story to children in the 1st-3rd grade and watch them as their faces run the gamut of emotions. When I read it to older students they tell me how the movie is different. The movie and the book are both well done, however, the book creates more drama, laughter and interest than the film. The movie follows the book, but uses more special effects than plot development. This is a great way to introduce the concept of reality and fantasy, what can and can not be real.

This book is wonderfull! I think its great for all ages especially the younger one's. They're imaginations are always going 100 miles an hour being creative and fantasizing over magic and wanting unrealistic things to happen when they can't. Well here it is! Jumanjii is about a board game that ends up happening in real life depending on what is rolled and what the cards say. Kids will think this is cool and will spike their imaginations about this book especially when they see they movie and how awesome it was. Just seeing my 8 years old sister's expression was just hilarious. Now she hopes other board games such as candy land will come to live. This is definitely modern fantasy at its best!

Excellent Book and Caldecott Winner

I homeschool my kids and I wanted to get several books that also have movies for them to compare and contrast and do graphic organizers (Venn Diagram). My daughter read the book in an hour and then immediately wanted to see the movie. She loved both and immediately picked up on the similarities and differences. It was a fun read for her...She is 9. My son is 4 and loved the movie and the pictures in the book as well!

A fantastic book for anyone who is seeking the ultimate in free hand exercise routines.

Unfortunately, I was sent the black and white photo copy of COMBAT CONDITIONING: Functional exercises for fitness and combat sports by Matt Furey rather then the CARTOON EDITION; nevertheless, this 136 page book has all the free hand exercises that are probably also shown in the CARTOON EDITION. The author is well known in the fitness community and his book explains in detail the various exercises that will get you into great physical shape.

He begins with emphasizing what he calls "The Royal Court." These are the most essential exercises for building the entire body. They include the Hindu Squats, Hindu Pushups and bridging. These are very rugged exercises and unless you are into good physical shape already, you should go easy into the "Royal Court" routine. This text also explores numerous other great exercises such as the wall walk, one leg squats, reverse push ups, V-ups, table making, Hindu Jumping squats, Lunges, finger tip push ups, Crab walking, Bear crawling, mountain climbers, side benders, forward Push exercise and numerous other great exercises.

The wonderful thing about this book is that it focuses on free hand exercises to build strength, power and endurance. Even though it is true that you can get a good workout in only 15 minutes; however, if you are seeking the ultimate in combat fitness you will have to follow the more challenging routines shown in this book. There is no question that doing these exercises anyone can get into great shape, whether or not you are into any of the combat sports.

Good exercises but I expected a more substantial book

I will say that the book set out what the author intended. The exercises seem challenging and accomplish the goal of a tough workout without any fancy equipment, etc. However I have to agree about complaints on price. For a relatively thin book, without any accompanying media (for example a DVD showing the author doing the exercises/routines), without color photos and glossy paper the price was a little high (although cheaper than a gym membership, etc.) I agree with the reviewer who suggested Mr. Furey put out a more polished edition and I'd add include a DVD so we can see someone working the entire exercise not just pictures of several points in the exercise.

Flawed, but unique and helpful.

Well... this book is a mixed bag. Its style is fairly amateurish and it makes a lot of over-the-top claims about how superior its methods are to every other form of strength training, familiar to anyone who's read through the marketing for as-seen-on-TV fitness programs. I would also tend to disregard any of the long-term training plans (1000 repetitions of any exercise is clearly not a good use of your time, and is certainly not the best way to gain strength).

However, for those who can read with a cynical eye and ignore this nonsense, there is a LOT of valuable content here. It is true that bodyweight exercise can be excellent for developing functional strength, and that many simple bodyweight exercises train muscles that are often neglected by weight training programs (though this argues more for their use in conjunction with weight training than as a replacement). And the list of exercises in this book is very detailed, clearly written and pictured, and includes a lot of esoteric but highly effective exercises that most people, even fitness-aware people, will not know. And these exercises can mostly be done anywhere without equipment, which makes them very useful for those who travel a lot or cannot always make it to a gym.

If you are capable of designing your own workouts, are already interested in bodyweight exercise, and are willing to do more research to find the best way to integrate these movements, this book can help you on your way and offers things many other books on strength training do not. However, if you are looking for a complete fitness program written by a professional with a scientific and reasoned approach, you may want to start elsewhere, as much of the general advice in this book is misleading, and it is much more useful for the descriptions of specific exercises.

Essential For Sourcing Material Properties

I bought this book as I was doing an Engineering Doctorate in material science at the University of Manchester. I needed information on the properties of some aluminium alloys, in this case copper based alloys. This series of books is a must for anyone sourcing such material data, and there are a number of editions focusing on the various alloys of aluminium available. In fact this book was eventually adopted by my department after I completed my studies because they only had one other copy available.

This is a no-nonsense, straight-to-the-point book, which effectively covers the topic of chemical process control. Though it is quite old now, much of the information is still very relevant and useful.

The way of simplifying explanations and writing from an understanding point of view (rather than merely presenting facts) is great and I wish all books were written in such a way!

A book on Process "Dynamics" and Control

Up to the late 1970's the trend in chemical process control was the development of algorithms that if found successful were then marketed to companies with process control problems or with new processes. The use of incorrect models led to disenchantment and loss of interest both in academia and industry. Eventually, "the realization that the crucial problem was to understand enough about the "dynamics" of the chemical systems so that advanced control procedures could be implemented" led to books like this by Stephanopoulos that addressed this issue. This book emphasizes the analysis of the dynamic behavior of the chemical process. Although first published in 1984, it is still a popular introductory book in chemical process control.
